Just a couple of weeks until Soldier of the Queen is released.
Soldier of the Queen will follow the lives of a family of soldiers who start to serve England in 1877. As such, it will not be about any one war but many wars and I hope, in the series, to look at some of the forgotten campaigns of the late nineteenth and early twentieth century.
I was so excited to be writing about the Charge of the Heavy Brigade. The disastrous Charge of the Light Brigade overshadowed what was, probably, the greatest moment in the history of the Heavy Cavalry. Charging uphill, the six hundred men faced thousands of Russian horsemen and won! Quite remarkable. In a battle that lasted less than twenty minutes, Sir John Scarlett achieved immortality.
